The Ellis County Press: Midlothian girls softball host tournament Midlothian girls softball host tournament ================================================================================ Steve Patterson on 08/04/2011 12:04:00 MIDLOTHIAN - The MGSA hosted the 14U Virtual Tournament Director’s (VTD) World Series Tournament July 28– 31. 27 teams came to play and all 27 had to earn a berth to be invited to the tournament. Teams came from all over the state and even a few from out of state. Not only do the teams come to play, they also spend money in the nearby area including Midlothian and Waxahachie giving the local economies a little boost in revenue, especially area hotels and restaurants. Although the heat was extreme, the MGSA and Midlothian Parks and Recreation Department did a fantastic job of keeping water jugs full of ice water, the fields in good shape game after game and they also had a large cooling station on hand for players and spectators which was appreciated by all. Sunday was the final day and prior to the championship game between the Centex Buzz (Waco area) and Dirtbags (Austin area) Midlothian Mayor Boyce Whatley threw out the ceremonial “first pitch” to the Buzz catcher and yes, he threw a strike! There was outstanding softball played throughout the tournament and nearly every team commented they would return to Midlothian for more tournaments. Winner of the tournament was the Centex Buzz with a 3-0 win over the Texas Dirtbags.
