The Ellis County Press: Sports camps wind down Sports camps wind down ================================================================================ Steve Patterson on 07/28/2011 10:24:00 RED OAK - Most of the youth and high school sports camps finished up last week and now these athletes will be getting ready for school and fall sports in their specific field. Last week the Lady Hawks Varsity Volleyball hosted a 6th grade and under camp for future Lady Hawks. These young ladies have some serious skills and will definitely keep Red Oak High School Lady Hawks Volleyball tradition alive and well for years to come. ROHS Basketball Coaches Stephen Foster and Steven Bowen held a basketball camp at the high school. The objectives of the camp were to help campers gain valuable instruction on the fundamentals of basketball. There were two camp sessions, one for 7th – 9th graders and one for 3rd – 6th graders. Last week was also the end of football camps sponsored by ROHS. Last week the incoming freshman class went through drills with the ROHS coaches as they prepare for their upcoming season. The ROHS varsity, JV and freshman cheerleaders also headed to camp last week. They traveled to Denton to participate in their camp where they not only learn new routines, cheers and chants, but also competed against some other cheer squads from other schools. Of course our cheerleaders represented ROHS well by bringing home many trophies and awards. The cheerleaders will now prepare routines for the upcoming school year. Finally, Shadow H Baseball held their inaugural baseball camp at Lindsey Park with more than 30 athletes participating in the four day camp. The camp helped players with batting, pitching, fielding plus some other key fundamentals such as leading off, pick-off moves and sliding. Based on the enthusiasm of the all the campers at all the camps last week, all had a good time, met new friends and learned new skills.
