The Ellis County Press: Odie Merrill Cowart Odie Merrill Cowart ================================================================================ Editor on 10/27/2008 12:05:00 Nov. 1, 1914 - Oct. 15, 2008 ELLIS COUNTY - Odie Merrill Coward died in Sanford, N.C., on Oct. 15, 2008 after a short illness. He was born in Smithfield, Texas on Nov. 1, 1914, the son of Frank A. and May Cowart. Mr. Cowart graduated from Roanoke High School and he attended TCU to prepare for a career in accounting. He pursued that career in Fort Worth, Dallas and Milford, Texas before returning to the Haslet area upon retirement. Mr. Cowart was a civic minded individual. He belonged to a Masonic Lodge, the Lions Club and local Chambers of Commerce. He was president of the Milford School Board and long term mayor of Haslet, Texas. An intelligent, incisive man, he was the one family and friends sought out for advice and guidance. He was a greatly loved husband, father, brother and friend. He will be sorely missed. Mr. Cowart was predeceased by his beloved wife Jean; his parents; brothers David C. and Clive and his sister Maybelle Carroll; he is survived by his daughter Dorothea Cowart Wilson; son Odie M. Cowart Jr.; son-in-law Samuel H. Wilson; grandson Samuel H. Wilson III and granddaughters Katherine Wilson Kohler and Stefanie Ann Cowart; grandson-in-law Jeffrey A. Kohler ; seven great-grandchildren; brother Jake and his wife Alta; along with numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Shannon Rufe Snow Drive Funeral Chapel, 6001 Rufe Snow Drive, Ft. Worth, TX 76148 at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008.
