DeSoto - For the second year in a row, DeSoto Independent School District is
hosting an open house event for all local families currently attending private
and charter schools.
"Welcome Home 2010" will take place Thursday, July 15 at 6:30 p.m. on the DeSoto
Freshman Campus located at 620 S. Westmoreland Road.
"We will showcase the wide variety of opportunities available across DeSoto ISD
- but primarily we will talk about academic offerings including the new DHS
College and Career Academies opening this fall," said Levatta Levels, assistant
superintendent of student support services.
Guests will hear testimonials from parents, teachers, students and recent
graduates before visiting with an assortment of program and school tables.
"Students can pick college-style course paths of their choosing such as health
and science, arts, technology or professional and earn dual-credit in many
programs."
In addition, campus representatives will be on hand to share unique programs at
each school and the district in general.
Also for the second year, DeSoto ISD will offer the free after-school program
ACE - Afterschool Centers on Education.
This program, funded through a state grant, provides a variety of classes for
students at all schools including music, dance, sports, cooking, chess, arts,
technology and academics.
