The Ellis County Press: Supreme Court wont rule in free speech case Supreme Court wont rule in free speech case ================================================================================ Editor on 01/14/2010 12:40:00 JOEY G. DAUBEN The Ellis County Press WAXAHACHIE - The U.S. Supreme Court won't be hearing a case involving a high school student who sued the Waxahachie Independent School District for censorship. "Without comment Monday, the justices rejected an appeal from a high school senior in suburban Dallas who sued the Waxahachie Independent School District for political censorship," the Associated Press reported. In 2007, Waxahachie High School student Pete Palmer and his lawyer father sued the district for banning the wearing of a John Edwards for President T-shirt in federal court. The 5th Court of Appeals in New Orleans, a federal appellate court, upheld WISD's dress code policy. The Palmers appealed, which resulted in the U.S. Supreme Courts decision to side with the lower court. By not taking the case, the matter retains the decision from New Orleans, several legal analysts said.
