"Waxahachie 101" is a 12-month long program providing participants a general overview of city operations by visiting a different city department each month now in its second year. Developed in 2009 to promote a better understanding of local city government, the purpose is to help residents gain an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of city council and city staff and become more aware of the departments, programs and activities according to the city. "The goal of this course is to provide our residents with an outlet to learn more about the basic operations of the city," said Community Relations Manager Amy Hollywood. The only requirements to participate in the year long program are you must be 21 years of age or older, reside in Ellis County and be able to attend meetings on a regular basis. The class is limited to 25 participants and registration will be on a first come, first served basis. Meetings will be held the first Thursday of each month, in the mornings with a light breakfast provided. The sessions will begin in January and run until December with the final meeting being a graduation and appreciation luncheon. "Waxahachie 101 will give participants an insiders view of each department, as well as a better understanding of city government," said Hollywood.
