The Ellis County Press: 33 families will receive a Thanksgiving meal from donations 33 families will receive a Thanksgiving meal from donations ================================================================================ Editor on 11/27/2009 19:08:00 The Lancaster Independent School District Police Department conducted their annual food drive from Oct. 26 through Nov. 16. The department exceeded their goal of collecting food to supply 30 families with a complete Thanksgiving dinner. Donations will provide for 33 families. Food items were collected by fifth grade students at Pleasant Run Elementary, students at Rosa Parks Millbrook Elementary, various student groups at Lancaster Middle School and Lancaster High School US History students. Additionally, a number of district staff, the Athletic Department, local community members and city leaders contributed to the project. Donations of food items were also given by Walmart, Minyards, Kroger and Golden Gate Funeral Home. Delivery of the Thanksgiving dinners began on Nov. 18 and will conclude on Nov. 20. Deliveries were made to seven families on Wednesday, Nov. 18 and fifteen families on Thursday, Nov. 19. The remaining eleven families received their Thanksgiving dinners on Friday, Nov. 20. Lancaster ISD and the LISD Police Department are elated to have collected the donations to share this blessing with families in our community and look forward to our next food drive for Christmas which will include a coat drive.
