Members of the Lancaster Historical Society have worked diligently to make this year's event bigger and better than in previous years; namely setting aside four days for the festivities. "We began preparation for this year's event immediately after last year's Oktoberfest," said Peggy Smith, Oktoberfest co-chair. Beginning Friday, Oct. 9 at 6 p.m., festival goers can participate in the Patron Party. Lancaster Mayor Marcus Knight will be on hand to celebrate in the opening procession and ceremony. Attendees can partake in German beers and wines. Live German entertainment will also make the event more festive. The Taste of Lancaster, HungerWalk face painting, pet adoptions, arts and crafts vendors, exhibitions and competitions are just some of the events to take place during the Saturday, Oct. 10 celebrations beginning at 10 a.m. The entire day, is filled with something for everyone. Free shuttle services will be available between Town Square and the Oktoberfest activities. Sunday, Oct. 11 events will begin with a breakfast and lunch provided by the Lancaster Historical Society. Area churches have been invited to celebrate by holding services. Choirs, musicians and dancers are also expected at Sunday events. The Lancaster Chamber of Commerce concludes the Oktoberfest celebrations on Monday, Oct. 12 with their annual golf tournament. "This is more than a beer-drinking festival," said Smith. "It's a community-wide fall festival." Committee members are continuously seeking volunteers to help with activities and local businesses to help in sponsorship. _To inquire about Oktoberfest, join the list of sponsors or volunteer, contact either Randy Rostad at 972-2278901 or Peggy Smith at 972-218-8347 or visit www.lancasteroktoberfest.com._
