Saturday, June 14 Ferris celebrates Juneteenth The City and Community of Ferris will celebrate Juneteenth with a parade starting at 10 a.m. from the site of Old Dunbar High School and ending at the Ferris Intermediate School. Following the parade will be a day of games and activities for all to enjoy. Midlothian Monday, June 23 Methodist Health System holds mobile mammography Methodist Health System's mobile mammography van will offer mammograms at Methodist Midlothian Imaging Center. Women age 35 and older with no breast implants or current breast problems are encouraged to be screened. Methodist accepts most major insurance plans, including Medicare Part B and Medicaid. Without insurance, the mammogram costs $111.65. Payment is due at the time of service and payable by cash, check, Visa or MasterCard. Appointments are required. Sunday, June 29 Fifth Sunday calls for Sardis Gospel Singing There are five Sundays in June and that means it is time for another great fifth Sunday at Sardis Gospel Singing. Everybody is invited to participate in one of the oldest gospel singings in Ellis County and enjoy some of the greatest talent ever to sing praises to the Lord. The fun and fellowship begin at 6 p.m., there will be a break at 7:30 p.m. with snacks for everyone and the singing will continue until about 9 p.m. For additional information, call 972-775-1219. Rob Boudreau of Micmac Teaching for Dogs will demonstrate techniques used to train Police K9s. Thursday, June 19 Sims Library holds meeting for Teen Book Club Sims Library Teen Book Club is meeting from 6 to 7 p.m. in the library meeting room. This month, the book, A Summer to Die by Lois Lowry, will be discussed. The friends of the Sims Library sponsors the Teen Book Club by providing books for participating teens. Wednesday, June 25 Sims Library hosts Wildlife on the Move Sims Library teens, ages 13 - 18, are getting up close and personal with Wildlife of the Move's "unhuggable" creatures from 4 to 5 p.m. Wildlife on the Move is a group of experienced program presenters dedicated to helping people become more knowledgeable about various critters in our natural world.
