The Ellis County Press: Laney awarded scholarship Laney awarded scholarship ================================================================================ Editor on 08/25/2011 21:01:00 Submitted article FERRIS - James Dillon Laney, a graduate of Ferris High School, has been awarded a scholarship by the Texas Interscholastic League Foundation. Laney received the TILF Diamond Anniversary Scholarship in the amount of $500, payable for the first year of higher education. The TILF Diamond Anniversary Scholarships are awarded to students who participated in the University Interscholastic League Academic State Meet and who have compiled an outstanding record of academic and extracurricular achievement. This year the TILF awarded 452 new scholarships and will renew approximately 188 multi-year awards for a total of 640 scholarships being distributed during the 2011-12 academic year, with value of approximately $1.2 million. Recipients must attend any approved college or university in Texas. Laney competed in informative speaking and Lincoln-Douglas Debate at the 2010 and 11 UIL Academic State Meets. He also participated in UIL one-act play, was a class officer and a member of the National Honor Society throughout his high school career. Laney plans to attend Trinity University and his major is currently undecided.
