Young girl overcomes dyslexia

FERRIS – Proud grandparents Barron and Mable Cornell of Ferris are shocked
their 13-year-old granddaughter has overcome her battle with dyslexia.
Ashley Cornell will be entering Wilkerson Jr. High in Mesquite while joining the
Jr. National Honor Society this year.
“She was first diagnosed when she was in the 1st grade,” said Grandma Mable.
According to the Mayo Clinic, dyslexia is an impairment in your brain’s
ability to translate written images received from your eyes into meaningful
language. Also called specific reading disability, dyslexia is the most common
learning disability in children.
Dyslexia usually occurs in children with normal vision and normal intelligence.
Children with dyslexia usually have normal speech, but may have difficulty
interpreting spoken language and writing.
Cornell took extra classes all through elementary according to her Grandma.
“She left elementary school as an office helper with straight A’s.”
Cornell’s Dad, Jeffery Cornell resides in Red Oak while her Mom, Diana,
currently lives with her in Mesquite along with grandparents Carol and C.E.
Plachy.
“We are all a very proud and happy family,” said Grandma Mable.
“We hope her story brings inspiration to children everywhere.”
