GLENN HEIGHTS - The city of Glenn Heights recognizes and is committed to a
Mission of serving the public interest, advancing the quality of life for all
citizens and preserving our small town atmosphere by embracing diversity and
family values.
In recognition of African-American History Month, the Honorable Mayor Victor
Pereira invites Glenn Heights students to participate in the 1st Annual
Mayor’s Essay Contest by submitting original essays, passages or poems
detailing "What Diversity Means in My Community."
Participation is a great way for students to reflect on the importance of
diversity and learn more about civic service and local government.
Two finalists will be selected (one for elementary and one for intermediate) and
their submissions will be recognized during an upcoming City Council meeting.
Each finalist will receive special recognition and a $50 U.S. Savings Bond.

Contest rules: The contest is open to all Glenn Heights residents enrolled in
grades 3rd-6th during the 2010-2011 school year; Essays, passages or poems must
address the subject with the opening beginning "What Diversity Means in My
Community."; Submissions may not exceed 300 words and may be typed or
handwritten; Only one entry may be submitted per student; Submissions will be
judged in relation to contest topic, creativity, neatness and the proper use of
grammar; Entries must be postmarked no later than Jan. 31, 2011.
