DeSoto ISD earns TEA Recognized District rating

DESOTO, TX- DeSoto ISD has earned the Texas Education Agency rating as a
RECOGNIZED District. The district has three Exemplary schools, six Recognized
campuses and three Academically Acceptable schools - two of which missed
Recognized by one point in one subsection.

3 EXEMPLARY SCHOOLS        Ruby Young Elementary (2nd year)
Northside Elementary (Recognized in 2009)
Woodridge Elementary (Acceptable in 2009)
6 RECOGNIZED SCHOOLS     Freshman Campus (2nd year)
West Middle School (Acceptable in 2009)
McCowan Middle School (Acceptable in 2009)
Amber Terrace Elementary (Acceptable in 2009)
The Meadows Elementary (Acceptable in 2009)
Frank Moates Elementary (2nd year)
DeSoto High School and East Middle School missed Recognized by one point in one
subsection! Cockrell Hill Elementary, DHS and EMS are rated Academically
Acceptable.
"We are ecstatic about our amazing gains and school ratings. To reach Recognized
as a district is a milestone toward our academic excellence across every subject
and student subgroup," said Superintendent Lloyd Treadwell.
District gains included tremendous leaps at DeSoto High School. While the
district had gains in all grades and subjects from seventh grade through twelfth
grade, DHS had gains in grades 10 and 11 math scores of 20 percentage points in
each. DHS science scores also increased 14 percentage points in grade 10 and 17
percentage points in grade 11.
All district reading scores by grade are over 80 percent passing and all
district writing scores are over 90 percent passing. District-wide math scores
have climbed to over 77 percent passing and district-wide science is at 74
percent.
"We are additionally pleased with our 90 percent passing rate or improvement in
26 of 27 areas while we continue striving to meet increasing standards each
year," said Dr. Donna Crenshaw, chief academic officer. "We will continue to
provide activities and interventions to ensure that every student and campus
excels academically."
