The Ellis County Press: Northern Ellis County cities ready for road trip Northern Ellis County cities ready for road trip ================================================================================ Editor on 07/22/2010 11:21:00 MEGAN GRAY The Ellis County Press OVILLA - In an effort to expand Ovilla Road into a four lane roadway from Interstate Highway 45 through Ferris turning south, cities are planning to make a road trip. During the annual quarterly meeting of the North Ellis County Coalition of Cities, consisting of Red Oak, Ovilla, Fer-ris, Glenn Heights, Palmer, Pe-can Hill and Oak Leaf, Mayor of Red Oak Alan Hugley discussed speaking to the vice president of the Texas Department of Transportation in Austin about possible road expansions. "I talked with Commissioner Ron Brown and he is wanting to take a trip to Austin," said Hugely. The trip would be an effort with representatives from the cities of Ferris, Ovilla and Red Oak. "The more people to go down and speak, the better," said Hugely. "Even though this might not happen and make it into their budget for another several years, we went down and told them what we needed to be done." Red Oak City Manager Tim Kelty said the there would be a few dates discussed but the event should happen sooner rather than later. "The sooner we get our needs on their mind, the faster we might see this much needed expansion," said Hugely. The next NECCC meeting will be hosted by Pecan Hill on Thursday, Oct. 7.
