Rudd went to the mechanics house in Oak Cliff, forcing the mechanic, along with his 12-year-old son into Rudds' car. The mechanic's son was very upset and crying so Rudd stopped his vehicle and let the boy out several blocks away. An aggravated kidnapping call went out to Dallas Police Department and the chase was on. The Dallas Police Department and helicopter, Dallas County Sheriff, Red Oak Police Department and the Ellis County Sheriff's Office were all involved before the chase ended at the suspects residence at the intersection of Lowrance Road and Meadow Lane, in Red Oak. Rudd was apprehended and arrested by the Dallas Police Department, with no injuries, other than trauma to report.
