The Ellis County Press: BBQ cook-off BBQ cook-off ================================================================================ Editor on 06/25/2010 15:33:00 MEGAN GRAY The Ellis County Press WILMER - The Wilmer Parks Board is hosting their first annual "Chicken and Rib Cook-off" this Saturday, June 26. "We already have participants signed up and I am very excited about the first of what we hope to be an annual event for the community," said John Eggen, board member. Taking place in the parking lot behind city hall, up to 20 teams will compete for trophies and the grand prize, a new Brinkman dual zone gas/charcoal grill. To compete for the grill, contestants must enter both categories. Residents can pre-register and begin setting up Friday, June 25 from 6-9 p.m. or register the morning of at 8 a.m. Registration costs $5 per category. In addition to the cook-off, a watermelon contest at 2 p.m., two bands and a 24 foot slide for the kids will be on site. Carter BloodCare will be hosting a blood drive starting at 2 p.m. with awards presented at 5 p.m. Applications and rules are currently available at the City Hall, library and both Clayton Crossing and River Oaks Mobile Home Parks offices.
