SAN ANTONIO - _The Ellis County Press_ took home a total of six awards during
the annual Texas Press Association Better Newspaper Contest Saturday, June 19.
"I am very proud ,"said Publisher Charles D. Hatfield Jr.
"My staff did a fantastic job this past year and they work very hard to make
sure the paper meets only the highest standards in quality news."
Awards and jud-ges comments are listed below:
1st place in General Excellence for a Weekly: Excellent editorial pages,
court/arrest reports and front page, although six ads on front do distract.
Bold, strong, local press-a damn good newspaper.
2nd place Feature Story: "Man of Steele: From Drum Sticks to Gavel" by Megan
Gray. Passive lead. Interesting
