FERRIS - Mayor Pro Tem Bill Pardue proclaimed National Police Week May 9-15
during the Monday, May 2 regular council meeting.
Calling on all citizens and patriotic, civic and educational organizations to
observe the week commemorating law enforcement law officers past and present,
Police Chief Frank Mooney, Officer Jeffrey Kent and Investigator Sam Love were
on hand to receive their certificate.
"During National Police Week, all of us who wear the badge remember those that
came before us and the sacrifices they and their families have made to serve and
protect," said Mooney.
Communities across the United States come together during National Police Week
to honor and remember law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate
sacrifice.
This year, the names of 324 officers killed in the line of duty are being added
to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington D.C.
The city will be hosting a series of events to pay tribute to our fallen heroes
all next week.
Tuesday, May 11
Police and fire department demonstrations/displays at 6 p.m.
Wednesday, May 12
Candle light vigil at the Fallen Officers Memorial 7 p.m.
Thursday, May 13
Torch run from the police station to the Fallen Officers Memorial and ceremony
at 12 p.m.
