Routine stop turns into hot pursuit across county

ELLIS COUNTY - What was meant to be a simple traffic stop to advise a driver
that a brake lig-ht was out on his trailer turned into a vehicle pursuit.
According to the Ellis County Sheriff's Office, Deputy Sgt. Jeremy Osteen
attempted to stop and advise the driver of a black SUV pulling a flat bed
trailer that he had a brake light out.
The observation was at the intersection of US-77 and FM-387.
Reports stated as the vehicle pulled in, two people jumped and ran from the
passenger side and then the vehicle fled northbound on I-35.
As the fleeing vehicle was passing through Red Oak, one of their units driven by
Officer Danny Williams joined in the chase.
During the ongoing pursuit, Sgt. Osteen observed the driver throw a bag out the
window and gave that information to dispatch.
The bag item was later discovered on location by another Sheriff Deputy
containing methamphetamine.
Units from the Sheriff's Office and WPD located and detained Collie W.
Sheets,36, and Tammy L. Sheets,37 ,the two who initially exited from the
vehicle.
The pursuit ended when the fleeing vehicle wrecked out on the Parkerville Road
exit.
At the time, Donny D. Adams ,36, fled on foot about a quarter mile after the
crash before Sgt. Osteen and Officer Williams caught him.
Adams was taken by Lancaster Fire EMS to a Dallas area hospital where he was
treated and released.
The SUV was reported stolen out of Balch Springs.
The trailer was stolen out of the Reagor Springs area of Ellis County but the
owner did not know it was missing at the time.
Charges have been filed on the driver, Adams, of Seagoville as well as the two
from Mesquite who exited the vehicle earlier on during the chase.
