The Ellis County Press: Unlicensed doctor arrested Unlicensed doctor arrested ================================================================================ Editor on 03/18/2010 14:15:00 STAFF REPORT The Ellis County Press OVILLA - On March 11, investigators with the Ellis County Sheriffs Office arrested a 72-year-old man from Ovilla for Practicing Medicine in Violation of Subtitle, a 3rd degree felony. Sheriffs investigators were initially notified by the employees of a business in the 400 Block of North 8th Street in Midlothian of a suspicious person contacting the business claiming to be a doctor. Investigation into the identity of the suspicious person led authorities to Bruce Hacker, who has not had a license to practice medicine since the early 1990s. According to reports obtained from Cedar Hill Police Department, Charlotte Smith, 62, filed a complaint with the police after she had an encounter with an "alleged" doctor, last January. "He pretty muchrefused to fill out paperwork [new patient] and he just gave off this creepy vibe to me," said Holly Lorren, secretary of Smith Chiropractic located on Beltline Road. The report states Hacker, claiming he was a doctor working in Oncology that recently had hip surgery and needed therapy for it, wanted to go back and visit Smith for a consult. Hacker has been allegedly going around since the late 80's operating a chiropractic business without a license-an offense that could carry jail fines and time if convicted. Since then, numerous victims have come forth and alleged Hacker has inappropriately touched them. "We received a complaint and sent the case to the grand jury[in 07] who no billed him," said Lieutenant Mollie Dox of Ovilla Police Department. Investigators conducted a sting operation at the business in cooperation with the business owner and were able to arrest Hacker after he identified himself as a medical doctor to an undercover deputy while attempting to treat the undercover deputy for a medical problem. Hacker remains jailed at the Wayne McCollum Detention Center in Waxahachie. Justice of the Peace Curtis Polk arraigned and set Hackers bond at $20,000. Anyone who has came into contact with Hacker are encouraged to call the Ellis County Sheriffs Office Crimes Against Persons Unit at 972-825-4913 or call 972-937-6060.
