DAUBEN _The Ellis County Press_ MIDLOTHIAN - Mike Spillers alleged he was assaulted by Sheriff Johnny Brown Wednesday, Dec. 30, according to a police officer who is aware of the incident. Spillers reported that Brown, a Midlothian Republican elected to his first term as sheriff in 2008, pushed him against the window at Caroline's Country Café, a restaurant on Old Highway 287 and Main Street. Brown denied the allegations against him. "I'm in a meeting Megan, make it quick," said Brown. "No, it is not true [that I assaulted Spillers.]" Calls to Spillers were not returned by press time. The police officer who knows about the incident said charges could be forthcoming on the sheriff. The officer said the alleged assault occurred after Spillers used derogatory language towards the sheriff over a verbal argument. The owner of Caroline's said they were unaware of the allegations until contacted by _The Ellis County Press_.
