WAXAHACHIE - 40th District Judge Gene Knize, R-Ennis, announced he will not be
running for re-election a week after Red Oak lawyer Dan Gus said he would vie
for the seat.
It will be Gus' first run for public office.
Knize, first elected as a Republican in 1992 after switching parties from the
Democratic Party, faced off against Midlothian lawyer Dan Altman four years ago
in a brutal contest saw Knize win with more than 60 percent of the vote.
Filing for the March 2 primary and general election begins Friday, Dec. 4 and
ends Jan. 4.
