Cause of shooting, suicide investigated

FERRIS - An apparent suicide on the 900 block of Bluff Springs occurred while
another was injured on the scene Sunday, Aug. 16 around 1 a.m.
According to the Ellis County Sheriff's Office, the unidentified victim was
assaulted by his stepson.
While deputies were in route to the residence, dispatch received a second call.
The caller had been shot.
When officers arrived, one man was found dead in the backyard from what appeared
to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
A second unidentified male was found lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to
his side and was transported to Baylor Medical Center in Dallas.
Ferris Police assisted with the crime scene.
The cause of this incident is currently under investigation.
