The Ellis County Press: Additional Truck Lane Restrictions to Be Presented for Public Comment Additional Truck Lane Restrictions to Be Presented for Public Comment ================================================================================ Editor on 08/07/2009 15:22:00 ADDITIONAL TRUCK LANE RESTRICTIONS TO BE PRESENTED FOR PUBLIC COMMENT Proposed changes along North Texas highway sections could improve traffic operations AUG. 7, 2009 (Arlington, Texas) - Transportation planners identified several highway corridors in Dallas, Ellis, Kaufman and Tarrant counties where safety, mobility and air quality would benefit from prohibiting trucks with three or more axles from using the left lane, except when passing. The proposed truck lane restrictions along IH 20, IH 30, IH 45, and IH 820 will be presented for public comment at hearings Aug. 10-12. Restrictions have been in place along sections of IH 20 in Dallas County and IH 30 in Tarrant County since November 2005. Based on traffic studies, truck lane restrictions have been shown to improve mobility, safety, and air quality. The restrictions are included in the region's long-term multimodal transportation plan approved by the Regional Transportation Council (RTC). The North Central Texas Council of Governments Transportation Department and RTC coordinated with the Texas Department of Transportation Dallas and Fort Worth districts, which initiated the study process leading to the recommendations and public hearings.
