WILMER - Matina Michelle Davis Abney, 35, candidate seeking a seat on the Wilmer
city council May 9, called _The Ellis County Press_ multiple times threatening
Barbara Beasley, receptionist.
She accused the paper of being "racist" because she is the only African-American
listed on the ballot in Wilmer.
Editor's Note: The Ellis County Press does not list race in any election charts.
Her name appeared under the Palmer candidates list by mistake during production.
She threatened to go to John Wiley Price, Dallas County Commisioner, about the
listing.
When she asked to speak with "the main person," she was referred to the writer
of the story, reporter Megan Gray, who explained the charts were jumbled during
layout and "we would issue another chart this week."
"That's fine, I'm not going to have a problem with the press I just am going to
let you know though, no matter what you all do there, I am still keeping my
original opinion," said Abney.
