Phone service briefly disrupted

Some residents in Ellis County were without landline and cell phone service
temporarily Friday because of a break in an AT&T/Verizon fiber optic line.
Residents in Ferris, Bristol, Palmer and Wilmer were asked to call the Ellis
County Sheriff's Department from their cell phones in case of emergencies.
The interruption to service was noticed around noon Friday.
The line was cut somewhere between Ferris and Wilmer and was caused by a
construction contractor working on a bridge on Wintergreen, said a Verizon
spokesperson. Phone service was restored around 5 p.m.
