WILMER - Last night's packed council meeting opened, with a quorum, ready to
catch the action stemming from Mayor Jeff Steele and councilwoman Tiny Lange.
After citizens comments, before going to item A and approving the previous
meeting minutes, the council jumped to item G on the agenda and went directly
into executive session.
As the discussion arose to consider ratifying the new laserjet printer for the
water department, approved unanimously, councilwoman Lange spoke out as to why
they needed a new one.
Steele had confirmation from Alice Holloway, city secretary, that the warranty
had expired.
"So what, you're a printer man now?" said Lange.
"Yes, I am. I'm also chief executive of this city," said Steele.
As the meeting progressed through the evening, the Wilmer Utility District
contract with the City of Hutchins was approved. Lange abstained but not before
she made the motion to pay $25,000 of the tax payers money for the contract
instead of getting it voluntarily.
The motion dropped without a second.
In other business, the city of Wilmer has agreed to start filing a lawsuit
against the City of Ferris for encroaching on their Extra-Territorial
Jurisdiction near South Creek Ranch.
