The Ellis County Press: Meals-on-Wheels needs volunteers for Ennis Meals-on-Wheels needs volunteers for Ennis ================================================================================ Editor on 01/22/2009 10:24:00 Amy LeBus Jackson, CFRE Meals-on-Wheels ENNIS - Meals-on-Wheels of Johnson & Ellis Counties needs additional volunteers to help get noontime meals delivered to the homebound elderly and disabled residents in Ennis. "We recently have had a shortage of volunteers," said Shanna Dunn, volunteer coordinator. Currently, Meals-on-Wheels has nine delivery routes providing meals to the residents of Ennis. Meals-on-Wheels depends on its volunteers to deliver hot noontime meals to the homebound elderly. Meals-on-Wheels reports that they recently lost several volunteers since the holidays. "Ennis has a need for at least six additional volunteers to fill our openings," added Dunn. Prepared meals are picked up at Helping Hands of Ennis located at 604 NE Main, and served Monday through Friday between 11 a.m. and noon, with delivery times taking no longer than 45 minutes. Volunteers are provided with detailed directions and instructions, and help when they can, whether it is weekly, a couple of times a month, or simply on an as needed basis. "For our volunteers who deliver meals, they are not only helping to feed the hungry, they are breaking the isolation that many of these people feel," Dunn said. "Without our volunteers, what we do would not be possible," she added. _If you are interested in volunteering, or if you know of someone who could benefit from Meals-on-Wheels services, please call 972 351-9943._
