"I'm just very excited, I want to make a difference." Said Marable. The 5-1 vote, (Marie Elliot opposed) ruled in the Texas A&M graduates favor. District 2 representative, Edward Kirkland , wasn't present. Earlier that day, the board had interviewed 4 candidates during a closed executive session. 1 of those being acting superintendent Eugene Young since Dr. Larry Lewis was terminated by the board. Young, has been questioned by some as well for his involvement in the findings from the boards investigation into the district that was instructed by Carolyn Morris. Lewis, who has been on paid leave since Oct. appealed their decision the day before Marables was hired. "No hearing of any kind has been set for Dr.Lewis yet ." said Teri Wilson, public relations director for the LISD. When asked about the district's financial crisis, Marables said, "We just have to tighten the belt. It's going to be tough, but, everyone's gotta pay their bills. "I think with the people back there [the school board] we can make that happen and get things done."
