Rule would relax beer, wine restrictions

WAXAHACHIE - City officials have tentatively scheduled an ordinance repeal which
currently prohibits beer and wine from being sold in the city.
Last month's heated election for beer and wine sales passed by a 51-49 percent
vote, but the rules on Waxahachie's books didn't allow for it.
Now that voters have spoken, city council members will vote for the repeal on
Jan. 5, according to City Secretary Lori Saunders.
Currently, Saunders said, the city is accepting applications for "legal sale of
mixed beverages in restaurants by food and beverage certificate holders only."
