The Ellis County Press: Maypearl Shooting questioned Maypearl Shooting questioned ================================================================================ Editor on 12/29/2008 09:50:00 MEGAN GRAY AND JOEY DAUBEN The Ellis County Press WAXAHACHIE - Chief Deputy Charles Sullins' abrupt resignation as retiring Sheriff Ray Stewart's right-hand man has embroiled the sheriff's office in more controversy. Sullins, a longtime top administrator who served for more than two decades, could not be reached for comment on his resignation, but sources inside the ECSO said he "didn't like" how incoming Sheriff-elect Johnny Brown informed several deputies they would not be coming back. Brown, elected in a March primary run-off over James Ledbetter and later on Nov 4 against a write-in candidate, informed the employees they would not be re-hired. A recent shooting in Maypearl on Dec. 16 has opened questions about sheriff deputies "shooting the wrong person," according to an ECSO source close to the investigation that opened after an unidentified suspect died at a Dallas hospital. Stewart wasn't available for comment as of press time.
