WILMER - The City of Wilmer hosted their first annual "Lite the Tree"
celebration last Thursday night.
The event, held in near perfect winter weather (cold but no wind!) featured
plenty of hot chocolate, hot apple cider, cookies and popcorn.
Christmas tree ornaments were decorated by the kids to place on the city tree.
Donations were accepted and will go towards holiday food purchases for the less
fortunate in Wilmer.
The festivities began with opening remarks from Mayor Jeff Steele and
Councilwoman Marlena Dyess.
Country-western singer Janie Fricke with assistance from some of the local
children sang "Silent Night" then led a crowd sing along of Christmas carols.
The city Christmas tree was officially lit by city matriarch, Isabel Stout,
while everyone anxiously awaited Santa Clause, who, arrived by fire truck.
