Suspect in city hall incident indicted

MAYPEARL - Gretchen Wendell Powell, the suspect police and prosecutors alleged
to have assaulted Maypearl Police Chief Lester Taylor and then tried to shoot
him with the chief's own gun, was indicted last week.
Powell's relatives have maintained that certain people and information is being
withheld from the public by the Texas Rangers and County/District Attorney Joe
Grubbs' office.
Midlothian lawyer and Duncanville municipal judge Kent Traylor is representing
Powell in the incident which occurred in early September around 5:30 a.m.
"The ethical rules governing attorneys limit our comment to the press, but I
think [it's] safe to say that Mr. Powell intends to vigorously contest these
charges in court," Traylor said.
