State rep candidate opposes DISDs 13-cent tax hike

DUNCANVILLE - Republican state representative candidate Homer Fincannon has come
out against the Duncanville Independent School District's 13-cent tax hike in
the Oct. 7 election.
Fincannon, a former Duncanville councilman and frequent candidate and critic of
taxing and spending, is running against Democrat incumbent Yvonne Davis,
D-DeSoto, in the Nov. 4 general election for the District 111 seat.
"Surviving the depression gave me a knack for saving most everything I have come
into possession of on this earth," Fincannon said. "So by cutting the bottom
[quarter] of those old ‘Vote No to [liquor] signs, I`m recycling them. They
were at the library, Duncanville & Mountain Creek [libraries] for early voting
on Main Street in Duncanville and will be at all polling places. The Texas
Ethics Commission told me if expenses are below $150, no paperwork so trash or
recycle to defeat this tax increase."
Since the Legislature changed the laws allowing for voters to approve school
district tax increases, DISD and neighboring Cedar Hill ISD have elections for
13-cent tax increases.
If approved, the tax rate would be increased to the maximum total tax rate
allowed at $1.17 per $100 of property valuation.
