Lupe Valdez weighs in on ECSO race

DALLAS - Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez, in a public response to reports she
was backing write-in candidate for sheriff Susan Welch-Rodriguez, told _The
Ellis County Press_, "I am always in favor of my officers getting the
opportunity to use the experience and training they have received at the
sheriff's department and advance to a leadership role. It is great to see them
become leaders in other areas of law enforcement."
Welch-Rodriguez has still been facing criticism over who is backing her in the
Nov. 4 race against Johnny Brown. She has reported that it was all her idea and
thought she should give back after all her years working as a Dallas County
sheriff.
