ENNIS - Despite the pleas of parents, students, alumni and community activists,
Catholic leaders in Dallas have decided to close St. John's Catholic School.
A debt of close to $200,000 was paid off last school year, but lower enrollment
figures helped spur the decision to close the school, according to media reports
and e-mails to _The Ellis County Press_.
Many students are expected to enroll in the Ennis Independent School District or
surrounding districts, according to parents, or attend St. Joseph Catholic
School in Waxahachie.
