Students at Palmer High School had a first-hand look at the consequences of
drinking and driving Thursday, May 15. Students were shown a mock accident
involving a pickup truck and a SUV whose occupants had both been drinking.
Student volunteers from the high school found themselves smeared in fake blood
and strategically placed in both vehicles to give other students a sense of
exactly how serious and potentially fatal, an accident can be when alcohol is
involved.
With the student body looking on, the accident scene was reenacted complete with
bone-chilling sound effects.
Emergency crews were also brought in to treat the victims, and the Air-Evac
helicopter landed to pick up a critically injured survivor from the pickup
truck.
Students thought it was a good demonstration, although some commented on the
fact that the damage to the wrecked cars was not consistent with the angle of
the collision for the accident.
Others felt the way in which the passengers in the vehicles were placed was not
as realistic as it should have been.
