Candidates stress change in May 10 race

MAYPEARL - Saturday is election time for local districts all around the county
and the Maypearl Independent School District is no exception.
Incumbent Charles Frame Jr., who has served on the board for three years, is
seeking re-election so he can continue the MISD's vision of a new cultural
change achieved.
"Mainly, it's about enhacing the environment enough where kids actually want to
learn," said Frame, who is seeking another three-year term.
Fellow incumbent Tricia Ikard, first elected in 2006, said she agrees with Frame
when it comes to sticking together. She believes it's essential to maintain the
team of board members already in place so "they may continue the goals and
vision of the district, adopt local policy, conduct comprehensive annual
evaluations, approve the district budget and make the crucial decisions in
maintaining that budget."
While Mac McAllister wasn't able to be reached for comment, Clint Bittick, who
served as mayor of the northern Ellis County town of Pecan Hill, has 20 years of
legislation experience in education nationally, he said.
His main goals are funding for small districts, teacher salaries and a change to
testing curriculum. He's previously been the vice president and president of the
Red Oak Education Foundation. Now, as vice president for the Maypearl ISD
Foundation, McAllister wants to help jump start the program as a 501(c)3 
non-profit for scholarships and grants to be awarded.
"I'm really looking forward to having the chance to serve the board with my
expertise."
Voting for the election begins at 7 a.m. and ends 7 p.m.
