WASHINGTON, D.C. - Eugene P. Smith, Lancaster ISD's former chief financial
officer, was recently indicted for allegedly using $50,000 for personal use,
according to the _Washington Post_.
Smith, who had the signature on the New Vistas Prepatory school bank account in
the nation's capital, had earned a "superior achievement" designation from the
Texas Education Agency's financial integrity rating system of Texas in 2005.
New Vistas was later closed by the D.C. school board.
Sentencing has been postponed until May in U.S. District Court.
