MIDLOTHIAN - Controversial postcards and flyers with directions to a keg party
at incumbent Cindy Williams' house have re-surfaced in the Midlothian school
board race.
Williams did not return numerous attempts to respond to this story.
K.C. Bernard, Williams' opponent in the May 10 election, said he was working as
a security guard at Midlothian High School during the time of the party.
"I do know that that has happened," Bernard said of the keg party Williams'
daughter, Beth, then a high school senior, threw.
"Straight from the kids' mouth that were in school at the time. Whether or not
they [Cindy & Rene Williams] were there, I don't know.
"So that's hard to say. Unless you were there, it's hearsay. It's hard to
dispute numbers. "When there is so many people saying it took place it's hard to
argue with.
"But ultimately it comes down to if you were there you would know, if not, then
you don't really know."
Williams has had to answer to the flyers before.
In the 2002 school board race and in subsequent articles in the _Midlothian
Mirror_, Williams said what her children did had no bearing on her school board
duties.
Beth Williams said as much in a public posting on an Internet blog in which she
chided critics of her mom. Beth said she takes full responsibility for the
party.
