Founded as _The Ferris Press_ in May 1992 by C.L. and Marcie Campbell, the name was changed by the new owners, Charles and Sheila Hatfield in 1993 to "more reflect the true nature" of _The Ellis County Press_, a countywide conservative newspaper. "Over the years, _The Ellis County Press_ has undergone hundreds of changes as technology changed," said Charles Hatfield, publisher. In the early days, the newspaper production was done on one computer in a small office in Ferris. Today, using the most current technology, _ECP_ has more than eight computers performing tasks from pagination, photo editing to managing circulation and accounting. "We believe we have one of the best weekly newspapers in the state in both appearance and content," said Hatfield. _D-Magazine_ named _ECP_ as "the best weekly in the DFW area." As demographics change, convergent technologies emerged providing _ECP_ with another venue to publish breaking news via the internet. Readers now have access to news, sports, weather, videos and ads 24/7 at www.elliscounty press.com.
