3 cities reach annexation accord

RED OAK - After some years of acrimony over an ambitious annexation plan by Red
Oak's attempt to reach Interstate Highway 45, the cities of Ferris and Palmer
joined their north-central Ellis County neighbor to strike a deal that would
halt Red Oak's land acquisition to Palmyra Road.
According to mayors in the towns, mediation was avoided after issues were
settled at sit-down meetings between each city.
Mayor Alan Hugley of Red Oak said he was pleased to see the compromise. Hugley
said there will be a formal event next week to solidify the plans.
