DALLAS - The hospitalization of Sheila Hatfield, popular publisher of The Ellis
County Press, from a stroke suffered last week came as a shock to the Ellis
County community.
The original diagnosis revealed Hatfield would remain in the Intensive Care Unit
four days then kept in the hospital an additional two weeks before getting moved
to an in-house therapy facility for 90 days.
This diagnosis would not show the strength, character and faith of a woman of
Sheila's caliber.
After being moved out of ICU
two days earlier than expected, a CAT scan was done on revealing the damage was
not as severe as originally diagnosed. Sheila was moved to Baylor Institute for
Rehabilitation, an inhouse rehabilitation center, on Wednesday, May 15.
She was showing signs of rapid improvement by moving her left foot up and down
when previously she could put some downward pressure with the same foot.
'I believe her remarkable improvement is due to the hundreds of prayers by her
friends, family, area churches and members of the community,' said Charles
Hatfield, Sheila's husband.
Hatfield has been phoning the papers and going over stories with the editor
showing the importance she feels for the truth to be reported.
'Words fail to express the gratitude and thanksgiving we have to those who have
shared in her recovery through prayer,' Charlie said.
'I am also very grateful to the doctors, nurses and support staff at the Baylor
Medical Center in Dallas for their caring and compassionate medical services
they are providing.
'It is my faith Sheila will be back with us sooner than anyone is expecting and
fully recovered.'
