Hospital bed costs Ferris woman her life

FERRIS - Andrea Crossland, 34, lost her life at home Monday after getting pinned
down by a hospital bed.
The home accident occurred around 1 p.m. with the Ferris Police Department and
medical personnel arriving at the scene within a few minutes of the call.
Crossland's mother said her hospital bed had been messing up when her daughter
attempted to climb underneath to see what the problem was.
The mother said Crossland had unplugged the bed and raised it up to get
underneath.
When Crossland was checking out the problem she plugged the bed back in when the
bed began to close on her.
The mother said she was in bed at the time and was unaware her daughter was
still underneath checking out the problem when she heard her scream.
Crossland's mother jumped out of bed to find her daughter unable to breathe
because of the pressure.
She could not get Crossland out while the bed was still closing in on her and
proceeded to unplug the bed to get it to stop then called emergency personnel.
The mother was giving Crossland her own oxygen when police arrived at the scene
but it was of no use.
Justice of the Peace Bill Woody pronounced Crossland dead on the scene.
The incident occurred in the 100 block of Hearne Lane and the mother was unable
to answer questions at this time.
