The Ellis County Press: Slaughter house denied by county Slaughter house denied by county ================================================================================ Editor on 03/01/2007 00:00:00 ERIC CORNELISON _Editor_ WAXAHACHIE - Community members who live in the area where a proposed slaughter house was to be built can rest easier now after Ellis County Commissioners unamimously denied a variance for the facility. After the court heard from several residents during a meeting held Monday, Feb. 26, the court denied the building in precinct 4 outside Maypearl and near Venus on Farm-to-Market Road 157. Community member Riley Battle had addressed the court and said, 'We have gotten a petition with over 200 signatures and no one I have talked with wants this and I would appreciate the voting against this.' The proposed slaughter house was to be built approximately 1,000 feet from a residential area, but community members complained the smell and purpose of the slaughter house could reduce the value of their community. Commissioners accepted petitions from both sides of the table then denied the request. 'I move we deny it because it is within one thousand feet of a dwelling,' said Commissioner Ron Brown, pct. 4.
