'We want to promote holiday spirit by encouraging citizens to gather to enjoy the holidays,' said Johnny Pearson, chairman of the Red Oak's Parks and Recreation board. This year's events would include the inaugural Christmas parade starting at 5 p.m. at the Old City Park across from the Acorn Academy. The parade will turn right onto Red Oak Road before making another right on Main Street ending at the Main Street Plaza on Texas Highway 342. Free hot cocoa, hot apple cider, cookies and other goodies will be distributed by merchants in the historic downtown area and Main Street Plaza. Children have a chance to win an eight-foot stocking filled with goodies by getting cards stamped from downtown and Main Street Plaza merchants. Cards would be given out during the parade or picked up from the merchants. Santa Claus was scheduled to make a special visit during the parade and remain at the Plaza taking pictures with children, but parents were encouraged to bring their own cameras. Bands and choirs from Red Oak schools would be performing for the public's enjoyment.
