The Ellis County Press: Ferris to celebrate Pioneer Day Saturday Ferris to celebrate Pioneer Day Saturday ================================================================================ Editor on 10/02/2003 00:00:00 SHERRY LONG The Ellis County Press FERRIS - Saturday, Oct. 4, the local chapter of the Lions Club will sponsor the annual Ferris Pioneer Day. Pioneer Day is an all-day festival honoring the founding families of Ferris. A parade will began at 10 a.m. including the high school marching band, floats from area churches and local businesses. The parade will begin and end at the Ferris Junior High to make it easier on parents who need to pick up their children who participate in the parade. This year, residents will be entertained with a sheep-herding demonstration during the parade, parade coordinator Cheree' Barrett said. The Green-family horses will make an appearance in this year's parade. The 2003 Ferris Pioneers, John and Daphine Savell, will be honored as grand marshals at the gazebo after riding in the parade in a convertible. Little Mr. and Miss Ferris Brick Festival, who were crowned during the Ferris Brick Festival in April will also be honored by riding in the parade.
