South Dallas County sprayed for West Nile

LANCASTER - Health officials have said cases of West Nile have gotten so severe
a stretch of southern Dallas County must be sprayed to combat the disease.
Currently, 33 severe cases of the disease have been reported by the Dallas
County Health Department, mainly in areas of North Dallas, Garland and Oak
Cliff. Spraying was conducted Tuesday near South Houston School Road and Belt
Line Road in Lancaster, which borders Red Oak.
More spraying is scheduled, but weather patterns will determine the dates and
times of the sprays. Residents are instructed to stay inside and avoid contact
with the spray, which can cause internal and external health problems.
In late summer, Ennis officials reported three cases of West Nile, all resulting
in deaths, but recently, the second death was ruled to be from other factors
unrelated to the mosquito-borne disease.
