The Ellis County Press: ‘It was a miracle from God’ ‘It was a miracle from God’ ================================================================================ Editor on 09/04/2003 00:00:00 _Palmer boy healed of blindness_ JOEY DAUBEN The Ellis County Press RED OAK - Jose Eugene Pena was born blind, but an invitation to Red Oak's Ezra Household of Faith changed all that on Aug. 12. Pena, 5, was healed when his mother took him to a special Healing Ministry Team service at the church, located at 211 N. Methodist in Red Oak. Margarita Pena, Jose's mother, called the event a miracle from God. 'There's no other way to explain it,' she said. 'He can see.' Jose attends school at Palmer Elementary and even though he still makes occasional doctor visits, medical officials at Children's Medical Center in Dallas have given Jose a healthy prognosis. 'The doctors were shocked, surprised,' Margarita Pena said. Ezra's pastor, Barry Nelson, said the same thing. 'The doctor's gave him a [clear prognosis] of his sight,' he said. Nelson, who oversees the congregation of about 25, said the event saw about five healings. 'One person received their hearing after wearing a hearing aid [all their life], and one was healed of crippling arthritis,' Nelson said. 'He had come in using a walker and left walking up straight. Then there was [Pena] and we had some minor healings, [a few] suffering from minor headaches.' Nelson said his wife saw the Healing Ministry Team on Christian TV station Trinity Broadcasting Network, and wanted to get them to their church, which they did. 'Our church does a lot of outreach to the transient [community], reaches out to homeless shelters,' he said. 'People come in, they get pumped back to life, and they're back on their way.'
