The Ellis County Press: County says ‘No’ to higher taxes County says ‘No’ to higher taxes ================================================================================ Editor on 08/28/2003 00:00:00 _Waxahachie eyes increase_ JOEY DAUBEN The Ellis County Press WAXAHACHIE - Ellis County Commissioners are looking at decreasing Athe tax rate for the upcoming budget year. Last year's rate of $0.31017 per $100 of valuation will be reduced slightly, but one commissioner said at least it's some decrease. 'I'd rather it go down than the other way,' said Commissioner Ron Brown, a vocal critic of tax increases. A public hearing will be held to discuss and approve the proposed tax rate Monday, Sept. 8 at 10 a.m. in the County Commissioner's Court room at the courthouse. Meanwhile, the City of Waxahachie is considering a half-cent tax increase, which would net them an additional $231,000, according to officials. The additional funds would pay to maintain the services Waxahachie provides, according to city officials. Sales tax revenues, officials said, are to blame for the dip in revenues.
